John 6:1–14

A Little Lunch, a Big Picnic

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

A huge crowd followed Jesus up a hill to hear him teach. Thousands and thousands of people! By evening, tummies were rumbling. Grumble, grumble!

“Where can we buy bread for all these people?” Jesus asked Philip. Philip shook his head. “Even lots of money couldn’t buy enough!”

Then Andrew brought a boy to Jesus. “This boy has five little loaves and two small fish. But that won’t go very far.”

The boy gave his lunch to Jesus. Jesus had everyone sit on the soft green grass. He held up the bread and fish and thanked God.

Then his friends passed out the food. And passed it out. And passed it out! Everyone ate until they were full, with twelve baskets left over!

A little lunch became a big picnic! When I give what I have to Jesus, he can do big things!

Talk about it

  • What could you share with someone today?
  • How do you think the boy felt when he gave his lunch to Jesus?
  • What small thing do you have that could help someone?

Pray together

Jesus, I give you all I have. Use it to help others. Amen.
