Job 1–2; 38–42

Job Trusts God

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Job loved God with all his heart. He had a big family, lots of sheep, camels and cows, and a happy home. Every day he thanked God.

Then, one after another, sad things happened. His animals were gone. His fields were empty. Job lost almost everything, and then he got very sick, too.

Job was very sad. But he still said, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job kept trusting God.

Job had lots of questions. “Why, God?” he asked. Then God spoke to him out of a big storm. “Where were you when I made the earth? Do you know where snow is kept?”

“Can you tell the sun when to rise? Do you feed the lion cubs and the baby ravens?” Job listened, amazed. God was so wise and so great!

“I trust you, God,” said Job. Later, God blessed Job with a new family and twice as much as before. Even on hard days, we can trust God.

Talk about it

  • Can we trust God on hard days? Why?
  • What helped Job keep trusting God when he felt sad?
  • When you have a hard day, what can you say to God?

Pray together

Dear God, even when sad things happen, I will trust you. Amen.
