Acts 12:1–17

Rhoda at the Gate

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

A wicked king put Peter in jail. Peter was chained between two soldiers, with more guards at the door. But the church was praying hard for him.

That night an angel appeared, and a bright light filled the jail cell. The angel tapped Peter. “Quick, get up!” Clink, clank! The chains fell off his hands!

Peter followed the angel past the sleeping guards. The big iron gate swung open all by itself! Then the angel was gone. Peter was free!

Peter went to the house where his friends were praying. Knock, knock! A girl named Rhoda came to the gate. “Who is it?” “It’s me, Peter!”

Rhoda was so happy, she forgot to open the gate! She ran back inside. “Peter is at the door!” “You’re crazy,” they said. But Peter kept knocking.

At last they opened the gate. There was Peter! Everyone was amazed. God had answered their prayers in a big way!

Talk about it

  • What can you ask God to help with today?
  • How do you think Rhoda felt when she heard Peter’s voice?
  • Who can we pray for when they need help?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for hearing our prayers. Help us keep praying for each other. Amen.
