Luke 18:1–8

The Widow Who Kept Asking

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus wanted his friends to keep on praying and never give up. So he told them a story about a widow and a grumpy judge.

The judge did not love God, and he did not care about people. A widow came to him. “Someone is being unfair to me,” she said. “Please help me!” “Go away,” said the judge.

But the widow came back the next day. And the next day. And the next! Every day she knocked on his door. “Please help me!”

At last the judge threw up his hands. “This widow will wear me out! I will help her, so she stops bothering me.” And he did what was fair.

Jesus said, “If even a grumpy judge helps in the end, think how much more God will help you! God loves you. He listens every time you pray.”

So keep on praying. Talk to God in the morning, at lunch and at bedtime. Tell him everything. God never gets tired of hearing your voice.

Talk about it

  • What can you talk to God about today?
  • When is a good time for you to pray?
  • How do you feel knowing God listens every time?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for always listening. Help me keep on praying and never give up. Amen.
