Matthew 25:1–13

Lamps Ready

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus told a story about ten bridesmaids. They were waiting for the groom to come so the wedding party could start. Each one had a little oil lamp.

Five of the bridesmaids were wise. They brought extra jars of oil, just in case. Five were not so wise. They brought no extra oil at all.

The groom was taking a long time. It got later and later. The bridesmaids got sleepy, and one by one they all fell asleep.

At midnight someone shouted, “Here comes the groom! Come out to meet him!” The bridesmaids woke up. The five wise ones filled their lamps, and their lights shone bright.

The other five had no oil, so they hurried off to buy some. While they were gone, the wise five went in with the groom to the happy wedding feast.

Jesus said, “Be ready, like the wise bridesmaids.” Jesus wants us to love him and follow him every day, so we are always ready for him.

  • What helps you remember to love Jesus today?
  • Who can you help while you wait and follow Jesus?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, help me love you and follow you every day, so I am always ready. Amen.
