Matthew 25:14–30

Three Servants and Gold

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus told a story about a master who was going on a long trip. Before he left, he called his three servants and gave each one some bags of gold to look after.

To one servant he gave five bags. To the next he gave two bags. To the last he gave one bag. Then he waved goodbye and left.

The first two servants got right to work. They used the gold to trade and buy and sell. Soon they had twice as much! But the third servant dug a hole and hid his gold in the ground.

After a long time, the master came home. The first two servants showed him their gold. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” the master said with a big smile.

The third servant dug up his one bag. “I was scared,” he said, “so I hid it.” The master was sad. He had wanted the servant to use what he was given.

God gives each of us gifts, like being kind, singing, drawing or helping. He wants us to use them for him, not hide them away!

Talk about it

  • What gift has God given you that you can use?
  • How did the first two servants use what they were given?
  • What is one kind thing you can do with your gift this week?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for my gifts. Help me use them to love you and help others. Amen.
