Matthew 13:44–46

Treasure and a Pearl

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus said, “God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field.” A man was digging in a field when his shovel went clunk! He had found a box full of treasure!

He covered it back up and ran home, full of joy. He sold everything he had, his chairs, his pots, even his goat, so he could buy that field!

Now the field and the treasure were his. He wasn’t sad about the things he sold. He had something much better!

Jesus told another story. A merchant looked for beautiful pearls. One day he found one perfect pearl, the most beautiful he had ever seen.

He went and sold everything he had to buy that one pearl. He held it up to the light. It shone and shimmered. It was worth it!

Knowing Jesus and being part of God’s family is like that treasure and that pearl. It is worth more than anything else in the whole world.

Talk about it

  • What is the most special treasure you have?
  • Why do you think the man was so happy to give up his things for the treasure?
  • How can we show that Jesus is our greatest treasure?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, you are my best treasure. Thank you for letting me be in God’s family. Amen.
