Luke 15:11–32

The Father Who Ran

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus told another story. “A man had two sons. The younger son said, ‘Father, give me my share of your money now!’ Then he left home.”

“He went far away and wasted it all. Soon his money was gone. His friends were gone. He was so hungry, he wished he could eat the pigs’ food!”

“Then he thought, ‘At home, even the helpers have plenty to eat. I will go back and tell my father I am sorry.’”

“While he was still far away, his father saw him. And the father ran! He threw his arms around his son and hugged and kissed him.”

“Bring the best robe! A ring! New sandals! Let’s have a party!” said the father. “My son was lost, and now he is found!”

God is like that father. When we are sorry and come back, he runs to us with open arms. God loves to welcome me home!

Talk about it

  • What does God do when we say sorry?
  • How do you think the son felt when his father hugged him?
  • Who can you run to when you need help saying sorry?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that you always welcome me back. Amen.

Memory verse
