Genesis 25; 27; 33

Two Brothers, One Blessing

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Isaac and Rebekah had twin boys. Esau came first. He was hairy and loved to hunt outdoors. Jacob came second. He liked to stay home by the tents.

When Isaac was old and could not see well, he wanted to bless Esau. But Jacob dressed up in Esau’s clothes and tricked his father. Jacob got the blessing!

Esau was SO angry. Jacob was scared, so he ran far, far away. The two brothers did not see each other for many, many years.

Jacob grew up and had a big family. One day God said, “Go home.” But Jacob worried. “What will Esau do?” He prayed and asked God for help.

Then Jacob saw Esau coming with four hundred men! Jacob bowed low, again and again. Esau ran to him... and HUGGED him! Both brothers cried.

“Seeing your face is like seeing the face of God,” said Jacob. The brothers were family again. God helps us say sorry and be friends again.

Talk about it

  • When is it hard to say sorry? Who can help us?
  • How do you think Jacob felt before he saw Esau?
  • What can we do when someone says sorry to us?

Pray together

Dear God, help me say sorry and forgive, so we can be friends again. Amen.
