Luke 7:11–17

A Boy Lives Again

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus and his friends walked to a little town called Nain. Just as they came near the gate, a sad group came out. People were crying.

A mother’s only son had died. She was a widow, so now she was all alone. Her friends walked beside her, but nothing could stop her tears.

When Jesus saw the mother, his heart was full of love for her. He went up to her and said softly, “Don’t cry.”

Jesus touched the mat, and everyone stopped walking. Then Jesus said, “Young man, I tell you, get up!”

The young man sat up and began to talk! Jesus took him by the hand and gave him back to his mother. She hugged her son tight.

Everyone was amazed. “God has come to help his people!” they said. Jesus is stronger than death, and he cares when we are sad.

Talk about it

  • How does Jesus feel when we are sad?
  • What kind thing did Jesus do for the sad mother?
  • Who can you comfort when they feel sad?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, thank you for caring when I am sad. Please comfort sad people today. Amen.
