Matthew 5–7

Jesus Teaches Us to Pray

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus sat down on a grassy hill. People gathered all around him, big and small. “Come close,” he said. “Let me tell you about God’s kingdom.”

“Look at the birds,” said Jesus. Tweet, tweet! “They don’t plant or store food, yet your Father in heaven feeds them. You matter even more to him!”

“Look at the flowers. God dresses them in beautiful colors. So don’t worry. God knows just what you need.”

“When you pray,” said Jesus, “you don’t need lots of fancy words. Talk to God the way a child talks to a loving father.”

Then Jesus taught them a special prayer that people all over the world still pray today. We call it the Lord’s Prayer. You can pray it too!

You can pray anytime and anywhere: in the morning, at night, inside, or outside. God always listens when I pray!

Talk about it

  • When is your favorite time to talk to God?
  • What is one thing you can tell God about today?
  • How do you feel when you remember God listens to you?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that you always listen to me. Amen.

Memory verse

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”Matthew 6:9–13 (KJV)
