Mark 4:35–41

Quiet, Wind!

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

One evening Jesus said, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So he and his friends climbed into a boat and set sail.

Jesus was tired. He lay down in the back of the boat with his head on a cushion, and soon he was fast asleep. Zzzz.

Then, WHOOSH! The wind began to howl. SPLASH! Big waves crashed into the boat. Water sloshed everywhere! The little boat rocked and tipped. The friends were so scared!

“Teacher, wake up!” the friends cried. “Don’t you care? We’re going to sink!” Jesus stood up. He spoke to the wind and the waves: “Quiet! Be still!”

And just like that, the wind stopped. The waves lay down flat. Everything was calm and quiet. Shhh.

The friends whispered, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Jesus is stronger than any storm!

Talk about it

  • What can you do when you feel scared?
  • What do you think Jesus’ friends felt when the lake became quiet?
  • Who can you talk to when your heart feels worried or scared?

Pray together

Jesus, when I feel afraid, help me remember you are with me. Amen.

Memory verse

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”Mark 4:39 (KJV)
