The Soldier Who Believed

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In Capernaum lived a Roman officer called a centurion. He was in charge of a hundred soldiers. He was kind to God’s people and even helped build their meeting house.

The centurion had a servant he loved very much. The servant was very sick. So the centurion sent some friends to ask Jesus for help.

As Jesus walked toward the house, the centurion sent another message. “Lord, you don’t need to come. I’m not good enough to have you in my house. Just say the word, and my servant will be well.”

Jesus was amazed! He turned to the crowd. “I have not found anyone with faith this big,” he said. The officer believed Jesus could heal from far away.

When the friends went back to the house, they found the servant up and well. He was healed at that very moment!

Jesus doesn’t need to be close by to help. He can hear us anywhere. We can trust his word, just like the centurion did.

Talk about it

  • Where can Jesus hear you when you pray?
  • What did the centurion believe Jesus could do?
  • Who can you ask Jesus to help today?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, I believe you can help from anywhere. Please help the people I love. Amen.
