A King Is Coming

The story

Long ago, many people felt like they were walking in the dark. They were sad and afraid. They had forgotten God. But God had a wonderful promise for them.

God told his prophet Isaiah, “The people walking in darkness will see a great light!” A light was coming, brighter than any lamp or candle.

“A child will be born,” said Isaiah. “A son will be given to us. He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!”

Another prophet named Micah told where the king would be born. “Little Bethlehem, you are a small town. But a great ruler will come from you!”

The people waited and waited. Years went by, then hundreds of years. Was God going to keep his promise? Yes! God always keeps his promises.

Many years later, baby Jesus was born in little Bethlehem. Jesus is the great light! He is the Prince of Peace that Isaiah and Micah talked about.

Talk about it

  • Why do you think Jesus is called the Light?
  • How did God’s promise help the people who were waiting?
  • What is one way Jesus brings peace to your heart?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for keeping your promise and sending Jesus, the Light of the world. Amen.
