A Little Room on the Roof

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In a town called Shunem lived a kind woman. Elisha often walked by her house. “Let’s build him a little room on our roof,” she told her husband.

So they made a cosy room with a bed, a table, a chair and a lamp. Elisha was so thankful. “What can I do for you?” he asked.

The woman had no children. “Next year you will hold a baby boy,” said Elisha. And it came true! God gave her a little son.

The boy grew. One day in the field he said, “My head! My head!” He became very sick. His mom laid him on Elisha’s bed and hurried to find Elisha.

Elisha came and prayed to God. He stretched out over the boy to warm him. Then the boy sneezed. Achoo! Seven times! And he opened his eyes.

“Here is your son,” said Elisha. The mom hugged her boy tight. God gave him life again! God cares for kind people and their families.

Talk about it

  • How can you be kind to someone this week?
  • Why do you think the woman wanted to make a room for Elisha?
  • Who helps you when you feel sick or sad?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for caring for my family. Help me to be kind like the woman of Shunem. Amen.
