Exodus 14–15

A Path Through the Sea

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

God led his people out of Egypt with a tall cloud by day and a bright fire by night. Soon they camped beside the Red Sea.

Then they heard a rumble. Pharaoh had changed his mind! Here came his chariots, rumble, rumble! The people cried, “We’re trapped! What will we do?”

“Don’t be afraid,” said Moses. “Stand still and watch. God will rescue you today.” The tall cloud moved behind them, like a wall.

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. WHOOOSH! God sent a strong wind all night. The water split in two, with a dry path in the middle!

God’s people walked right through on dry ground, with walls of water on each side. Then the sea came tumbling back. SPLASH! They were safe!

Miriam grabbed her tambourine. Shake, shake! Everyone danced and sang, “Sing to the Lord!” God made a way where there was no way.

Talk about it

  • How did God make a way for his people?
  • How do you think the people felt when they saw the dry path?
  • When you feel stuck, what can help you remember God is with you?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that you can make a way for me. Amen.
