Exodus 25–40

A Tent for God

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In the desert, God told Moses, “Make me a special tent, so I can live close to my people.” The people were so happy. They wanted to help!

Everyone brought gifts. Gold rings and bracelets! Blue, purple and red yarn! Soft goat hair, wood and shiny stones! The pile grew bigger and bigger.

So many gifts came that Moses had to say, “Stop! That is enough!” The people had given with happy hearts.

Skilled builders got to work. They sewed long curtains. They shaped gold. They built a golden box called the ark. Snip, stitch, tap, tap!

At last the tent was finished. It was called the tabernacle. Then God’s glory cloud came down and filled the tent with bright, holy light!

Wherever the people traveled, they took God’s tent with them. God wanted to be close to his people. And God wants to be close to you, too!

Talk about it

  • What could you give to God with a happy heart?
  • What is one small way you can help at home with a happy heart?
  • How do you think the people felt when God’s bright cloud came near the tent?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for wanting to be close to me. I want to be close to you. Amen.
