Exodus 19–20

Ten Good Rules

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

God led his people to a tall mountain called Sinai. Thick clouds covered the top. Thunder rumbled. Lightning flashed. A loud trumpet sound blasted! TOOOOT!

God had rescued his people, and he loved them. Now he wanted to show them how to live as his family. So God called Moses up the mountain.

The people waited below. Up, up, up climbed Moses, into the cloud. There God gave him ten good rules, written on two flat stones.

Love God most of all. Don’t make anything else your god. Say God’s name with love. Rest on God’s special day. Honor your mom and dad.

Don’t hurt others. Husbands and wives, keep your promises. Don’t take what isn’t yours. Tell the truth. Don’t wish for what belongs to someone else.

God’s rules are good, like a light that shows us the way. They help us love God and love each other. God’s ways are good!

Talk about it

  • Which of God’s good rules can you do today?
  • How do God’s good rules help a family love each other?
  • What is one kind choice you can make when someone has something you want?

Pray together

Dear God, help me love you and love others the way you show me. Amen.
