Luke 1:26–38

An Angel Visits Mary

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In the little town of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. She was kind, and she loved God. Soon she would marry a carpenter named Joseph.

One ordinary day, swish! A shining angel stood in Mary’s little room. His name was Gabriel, and God had sent him with a message.

“Hello, Mary!” said Gabriel. “God is with you, and he is very pleased with you.” Mary’s eyes grew wide. What could this mean?

“Don’t be afraid,” said Gabriel. “You will have a baby boy, and you will name him Jesus. He will be God’s own Son, and he will be King forever!”

“How can this happen?” Mary asked softly. “Nothing is too hard for God,” said Gabriel with a smile.

Mary smiled. “I belong to God. Let it happen just as you said.” Then the angel was gone, and Mary’s heart sang. Nothing is too hard for God!

Talk about it

  • What is something really big that God can do?
  • How do you think Mary felt when Gabriel came to her room?
  • What can help you trust God when something feels too big?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that nothing is too hard for you. Amen.
