Esther 2–8

Brave Queen Esther

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Esther was a Jewish girl raised by her cousin Mordecai. One day King Xerxes of Persia chose Esther to be his new queen. Now she lived in the palace!

But the king’s top helper, Haman, was proud and mean. When Mordecai would not bow to him, Haman got angry. He tricked the king into making a law against all the Jewish people.

Mordecai sent Esther a message: “You must ask the king for help. Maybe God made you queen for just such a time as this!”

But no one could go to the king without being called. It was dangerous! Esther asked her people to pray for her. Then she bravely walked into the throne room.

The king held out his golden scepter. “What do you want, Queen Esther?” At a special dinner, Esther told the king about Haman’s wicked plan.

The king was angry with Haman, and his plan was stopped. God’s people were saved! They celebrated with a big party. God can help me be brave, too.

Talk about it

  • When did you have to be brave? How did God help you?
  • Who helped Esther be brave in this story?
  • What brave thing could you ask God to help you do?

Pray together

Dear God, help me be brave and do what is right. Amen.
