2 Kings 20:1–11

Hezekiah Prays

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Hezekiah was a good king who loved God. But one day he got very, very sick. The prophet Isaiah came to see him and said, “You are not going to get better.”

King Hezekiah turned his face to the wall. He cried and prayed. “Lord, please remember how I have loved you and tried to do what is right.”

Before Isaiah had even left the palace, God spoke to him. “Go back and tell Hezekiah: I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. I will heal you!”

Isaiah told the king, “God will add fifteen more years to your life!” Hezekiah asked, “What sign will show me it’s true?”

Outside was a stairway that worked like a clock. The sun’s shadow walked down the steps every day. Isaiah prayed, and God made the shadow go back ten steps! Backward!

Hezekiah got well and praised God. God heard the king’s prayer, and he hears your prayers, too. You can talk to God about anything.

Talk about it

  • What is something you want to pray about today?
  • How do you think Hezekiah felt when God heard his prayer?
  • Who can we pray for when they are sick or sad?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for hearing my prayers. I love talking with you. Amen.
