2 Kings 11–12

Joash, the Boy King

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Long ago, a mean queen wanted to be the boss of everything. She tried to get rid of the whole royal family. But one baby prince named Joash was saved!

His brave aunt grabbed baby Joash and hid him in God’s temple. Shh! Nobody knew he was there. The kind priest Jehoiada helped keep him safe.

For six years, little Joash grew up in God’s house. He learned to walk, talk and pray there. Every day, Jehoiada taught him about God.

When Joash was seven, Jehoiada said, “It’s time!” Guards stood all around him. The priest placed a crown on his head. “Long live the king!” everyone shouted. Clap, clap, clap!

Joash was the youngest king ever! As he grew up, he saw that God’s temple was cracked and old. “Let’s fix it!” he said. People brought money in a big wooden box.

Builders hammered and painted until God’s house was strong and beautiful again. God can use kids to do great things, even you!

Talk about it

  • What is something great you could do for God, even now?
  • How did God keep Joash safe when he was little?
  • Who can help you learn to love and obey God?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that you can use kids like me. Amen.
