2 Kings 6:8–23

Open His Eyes

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

A king who did not like God’s people kept planning secret attacks. But God told Elisha the plans every time! The angry king sent a big army to catch Elisha.

Early in the morning, Elisha’s helper went outside and gasped. Soldiers, horses and chariots were all around the town! He ran back inside, shaking.

“Oh no, master! What shall we do?” he cried. But Elisha was not scared at all. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Those who are with us are more than those with them.”

Elisha prayed, “Lord, please open his eyes so he can see.” And God did! The helper looked up at the hills and gasped again, but this time it was a happy gasp.

The hills were full of horses and chariots of fire! God’s angel army was all around them. They were safe! Then God helped Elisha lead the soldiers away.

Elisha even gave the soldiers a big meal and sent them home in peace. When you feel scared, remember: God is with you, and his helpers are all around.

Talk about it

  • What can you remember when you feel scared?
  • How did God help Elisha and his helper feel safe?
  • Who can you talk to when you feel afraid?

Pray together

Dear God, open my eyes to see that you are always with me. Amen.
