1 Kings 17:1–7

Breakfast from the Birds

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Elijah was God’s prophet. The king of the land was doing many wrong things. So God stopped the rain. No rain fell, day after day after day.

God told Elijah, “Go and hide by a little brook called Cherith. You can drink from the brook. And I have told the ravens to feed you there.”

Ravens? Big black birds? Elijah went anyway. He trusted God. He sat down beside the trickling water and waited. Drip, drip, trickle.

Every morning, flap, flap, flap! The ravens came carrying bread and meat. Every evening, flap, flap, flap! They came again with more food.

Elijah ate his breakfast and his dinner, and he drank from the brook. God took care of him, every single day. Not one meal was missed!

God fed Elijah in a surprising way. God knows what we need, too. He takes care of us morning and evening, every day!

Talk about it

  • What are some ways God takes care of you?
  • How do you think Elijah felt when the ravens brought food?
  • What surprising way could God use to help someone today?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for my food and for taking care of me every day. Amen.
