John 21:1–19

Breakfast on the Beach

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

After Easter, Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” Some friends went with him. They fished all night long, but they didn’t catch a single fish.

Early in the morning, a man stood on the beach. “Friends, have you caught anything?” he called. “No,” they said. “Throw your net on the right side of the boat!”

They threw the net, and it filled up with so many fish they couldn’t pull it in! John said, “It’s Jesus!”

Peter jumped right into the water and swam to shore! Jesus had a fire going with fish and bread. “Come and have breakfast,” Jesus said.

After breakfast, Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” “Yes, Lord, you know I love you!” Peter said. Each time Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”

Peter had once said three times he didn’t know Jesus. Now Jesus forgave him and gave him an important job: to take care of Jesus’ people.

Talk about it

  • How can you show Jesus that you love him?
  • How do you think Peter felt when Jesus forgave him?
  • Who can you care for like Jesus asked Peter to care for his people?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, I love you. Thank you for forgiving me. Help me care for others. Amen.
