John 20:24–29

Thomas Believes

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

On Easter evening, Jesus came to visit his friends. But Thomas was not there. Later the others told him, “We saw Jesus! He is alive!”

Thomas shook his head. “I won’t believe it unless I see him myself,” he said. “I need to see him with my own eyes.”

For a whole week, Thomas wondered. His friends were so happy, but Thomas still had questions.

A week later, the friends were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but suddenly Jesus was standing there! “Peace be with you,” he said.

Jesus went right to Thomas. He held out his hands kindly. “Look, Thomas. It’s really me. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas fell to his knees. “My Lord and my God!” he said. Jesus said, “You believe because you saw me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing.” That means you!

Talk about it

  • How can we believe in Jesus without seeing him?
  • What helped Thomas believe that Jesus was alive?
  • When you have questions, who can you talk to about Jesus?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, I have not seen you, but I believe in you. You are my Lord and my God. Amen.
