Daniel 6

Daniel and the Lions

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Daniel loved God. Three times every day, he knelt by his open window and prayed. King Darius liked Daniel so much, he planned to put him in charge of the kingdom.

Some jealous leaders wanted to get Daniel in trouble. They tricked the king into making a law: “For thirty days, pray only to the king. Or into the lions’ den!”

Daniel heard about the law. Did he stop praying? No! He went home, opened his window, and prayed to God, just like always.

King Darius was very sad, but the law could not be changed. Daniel was put in with the lions. A big stone covered the door.

All night, the king could not sleep. At sunrise, he ran to the den. “Daniel! Did your God save you?” “Yes!” called Daniel. “God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths!”

Not one scratch was on Daniel! The king was so glad. “Everyone should honor Daniel’s God,” he said. I can pray to God anytime, anywhere!

Talk about it

  • When and where can you pray to God?
  • How do you think Daniel felt when he prayed even though the law was hard?
  • What helps you remember that God hears you when you pray?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you that I can talk to you anytime, anywhere. Amen.
