2 Samuel 6

David Dances

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

David was now the king! He wanted to bring God’s special golden box, the ark, home to the city of Jerusalem. The ark reminded everyone that God was with them.

It was a big parade! Priests carried the ark on long poles. People played harps, drums, tambourines and cymbals. Toot! Boom! Jingle! Crash!

Everyone came out to see. Moms and dads waved. Children skipped and clapped. The whole city was full of happy music for God.

King David was so happy that he could not keep still. He took off his royal robe and danced before God with all his might! Twirl, leap, hop!

The people shouted for joy, and the trumpets blew. David did not care if he looked silly. He was dancing for God, his very best friend.

When the ark was home, David gave everyone bread and raisin cakes. What a party! We can worship God with our whole selves, too. Let’s dance!

Talk about it

  • How do you like to praise God? Singing, dancing or clapping?
  • What do you think David felt while he was dancing for God?
  • What is one happy way our family can worship God today?

Pray together

Dear God, I love you! I want to praise you with my whole self. Amen.

Memory verse

“Let them praise his name in the dance.”Psalm 149:3 (KJV)
