1 Samuel 16:14–23

David's Harp

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

King Saul was not feeling well. He felt troubled and grumpy inside. Nothing made him feel better. He stomped around the palace, frowning.

His helpers had an idea. “Let’s find someone who plays beautiful music on the harp. Maybe that will help the king feel better.”

One helper said, “I know a boy! He is a shepherd named David. He plays the harp very well, and God is with him.”

David came to the palace with his harp. He sat down near the king and began to play. Plink, plink, strum. The music was soft and sweet.

As David played, King Saul began to feel better. His frown went away. The troubled feeling left him. He felt peaceful again.

David used his gift to help someone who was hurting. God gives each of us special gifts. How can you use yours to help others?
