Judges 4–5

Deborah Under the Palm Tree

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Long ago, God’s people had leaders called judges. One of them was a wise woman named Deborah. She sat under a big palm tree to help people.

People came with their problems. “What should we do?” they asked. Deborah listened to God and gave wise answers. Everyone trusted her.

But enemies were being mean to God’s people. Deborah called a man named Barak. “God says it is time to set our people free!”

Barak said, “I will go, but only if you come with me.” “I will go,” said Deborah. They went with ten thousand people to Mount Tabor.

Then God sent a huge storm! Boom! Rain poured, and the river flooded. The enemy’s chariots got stuck in the mud. The enemies ran away, and God’s people were free!

Deborah and Barak sang a big thank-you song to God. God used a wise, brave woman to help his people. God can use you, too!

Talk about it

  • How can God use you to help people?
  • Who helped Deborah be wise and brave?
  • What is one kind thing you can do for someone this week?

Pray together

Dear God, make me wise and brave like Deborah, ready to help. Amen.
