Joshua 3–4

Stones to Remember

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

At last God’s people came to the Jordan River. Across it was their new home! But the river was big and full of rushing water. How could they cross?

God told Joshua, “Let the priests carry the ark into the river.” The priests stepped in, splash! And the water stopped flowing. It piled up far away!

The priests stood still in the middle of the river on dry ground. All the people walked across. Moms, dads, kids, and even the sheep. Their feet did not get wet!

Joshua chose twelve men. “Each of you, pick up a big stone from the middle of the river.” Heave-ho! Twelve men carried twelve stones.

On the other side, Joshua stacked the stones into a pile. “Someday, your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then tell them what God did!”

The stones helped everyone remember God’s great help. What has God done for you? Let’s remember it and tell someone!

Talk about it

  • What is something good God has done that you can remember?
  • Why do you think Joshua wanted the people to remember the stones?
  • Who could you tell about something kind God has done?

Pray together

Dear God, help me remember all the good things you do, and tell others. Amen.
