Joshua 2; 6:22–25

Rahab's Red Rope

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Joshua sent two spies into the big city of Jericho. A woman named Rahab lived in a house built right into the city wall. She let the spies come in.

The king heard about the spies! “Bring them out!” he ordered. But Rahab had hidden them on her roof, under big piles of flax stalks. Shh!

Rahab told the spies, “I know your God is the true God. Please be kind to my family when you come back.” The spies said, “We promise!”

Rahab helped the spies climb down the outside of the wall with a long red rope. Down, down, down they went, safe into the dark.

“Hang this red rope in your window,” the spies said. “Bring your family inside. When we come back, everyone in this house will be safe.”

And that is just what happened! Rahab and all her family were kept safe. Rahab trusted God, and God took care of her. Brave faith!

Talk about it

  • How did Rahab show she trusted God?
  • What do you think Rahab felt when she helped the spies?
  • Who helps you feel safe when you are worried?

Pray together

Dear God, give me brave faith like Rahab, to trust you and help others. Amen.
