Luke 19:28–40

Hosanna!

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus and his friends were near Jerusalem. “Go into the village,” Jesus said. “You’ll find a young donkey. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks why, say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

His friends found the donkey, just as Jesus said. They put their coats on its back, and Jesus climbed on. Clip-clop, clip-clop!

Down the hill toward the city they went. People came running from everywhere to see. “It’s Jesus!” they called. “Jesus is coming!”

People spread their coats on the road like a royal carpet. Others waved branches high. Swish, swish! Wave, wave!

“Hosanna!” they shouted. “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” Some grumpy leaders said, “Make them stop!”

Jesus said, “If they were quiet, even the stones would shout!” Hosanna! Jesus is the King, and I can praise him!

Talk about it

  • How can you praise Jesus today?
  • What do you think it felt like to see Jesus coming on the donkey?
  • What happy words could you say to Jesus?

Pray together

Hosanna, Jesus! You are my King. Amen.
