Luke 2:1–7

Jesus Is Born

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Clip-clop, clip-clop. Mary and Joseph traveled a long, long way to the town of Bethlehem. The ruler wanted everyone counted, so off they went.

Mary rode on a little donkey. Her baby was coming very soon! When they got to Bethlehem, the town was full of people. Every room was taken.

“Where will we stay?” they wondered. At last they found a quiet place where the animals slept. It wasn’t fancy, but it was warm and safe.

And there, in the hush of the night, baby Jesus was born! Mary wrapped him snug in soft cloths. Joseph smiled and smiled.

There was no crib, so Mary gently laid him in a manger, a wooden box where animals eat their hay. “Baa,” said a sleepy little lamb.

The whole world was quiet. God’s own Son had come to earth as a tiny baby. Jesus came because God loves us so much!

Talk about it

  • Why did Jesus come to earth as a baby?
  • How do you think Mary and Joseph felt when they found the stable?
  • What is one way we can show God’s love to someone today?

Pray together

Thank you, God, for sending baby Jesus because you love us. Amen.
