The story
God told Jonah, “Go to the big city of Nineveh. Tell the people to stop doing wrong.” But Jonah did not want to go. He ran the other way and hopped on a ship!
Then God sent a huge storm. WHOOSH! CRASH! The waves tossed the ship up and down. “It’s my fault,” said Jonah. “Throw me into the sea, and it will be calm.”
SPLASH! Into the water went Jonah. The sea became still. Then GULP! God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah up.
For three days and nights, Jonah sat inside the fish. Dark and slimy! Jonah prayed, “Thank you, God, for saving me!” Then BLEH! The fish spat Jonah onto dry land.
God told Jonah again, “Go to Nineveh.” This time, Jonah went. “Stop doing wrong!” he told them. The people were sorry, and they turned to God.
God forgave them all. Jonah was grumpy about that, but God said, “I care about these people.” God loves everyone, and he gives second chances!
