Genesis 39–41

Joseph and the King's Dreams

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

In Egypt, Joseph worked hard and did what was right. But someone told a lie about him, and Joseph was put in prison. Clang! went the door.

Even in prison, God was with Joseph. Two men had strange dreams. With God’s help, Joseph told them what their dreams meant. It all came true!

Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had dreams, too. Nobody could explain them. “I know someone who can,” said the king’s cup-bearer. “Joseph!”

Joseph stood before Pharaoh. “I can’t do it,” said Joseph, “but God can.” Pharaoh told about seven fat cows and seven skinny cows. Moo!

“God is telling you what will happen,” said Joseph. “Seven years with plenty of food are coming. Then seven years with no harvest. Save food now!”

Pharaoh was amazed. He put Joseph in charge of all Egypt! Joseph stored up grain, heaps and heaps. God was with Joseph all along.

Talk about it

  • Who helped Joseph understand the king’s dreams?
  • How do you think Joseph felt when God helped him speak to Pharaoh?
  • What is one way we can trust God when something is hard?

Pray together

Dear God, help me do what is right, and thank you for always being with me. Amen.
