Little Girl, Get Up

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

A man named Jairus ran to Jesus and fell at his feet. “Please come!” he begged. “My little girl is very sick. Please come and make her well!”

Jesus went with him. But on the way, some men came with bad news. “Your daughter has died,” they said. Jairus’ heart broke.

Jesus looked at Jairus. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Just believe.” Then he went to the house with Jairus, Peter, James and John.

Jesus went into the girl’s room. She was twelve years old, lying very still on her bed. Jesus took her by the hand.

“Little girl, get up!” he said. Right away, she opened her eyes, stood up and walked around! Her mom and dad were amazed.

Jesus smiled. “Give her something to eat,” he said. Maybe she had some bread and figs! Jesus is stronger than anything, so we don’t need to be afraid.

Talk about it

  • When you feel afraid, what can you remember?
  • What do you think Jairus felt when Jesus said, “Just believe”?
  • How did Jesus show kindness to the little girl and her family?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, when I am afraid, help me believe in you. Amen.
