Psalm 121

My Help Comes from the Lord

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Long ago, families walked a long way to Jerusalem to worship God. The road went up and down, over big hills. Some days it was hot. Some nights it was dark.

As they walked, they sang songs together. One song asked a big question: “I look up at the hills. Where does my help come from?”

Then they sang the answer: “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” The God who made the hills was walking with them.

“He will not let your foot slip,” they sang. “He who watches over you will not fall asleep.” God never gets sleepy. He never even takes a nap!

The sun will not hurt you by day, and the moon will not hurt you by night. God watches over you when you go out and when you come in.

So tonight, when you close your eyes, remember: God is awake. He is watching over you all night long. You can rest. Good night!

Talk about it

  • How does it feel to know God is awake all night?
  • What helps you feel safe when it is dark?
  • Where can we remember God is with us—at home, outside, or on a trip?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for watching over me day and night. I can rest in you. Amen.
