John 3:1–21

Nicodemus Comes at Night

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Nicodemus was an important teacher. He had heard about Jesus and had big questions. So one night, when the streets were quiet, he went to find Jesus.

They sat together on a rooftop under the stars. “Teacher,” said Nicodemus, “we know God sent you. Nobody could do these miracles without God.”

Jesus said, “To see God’s kingdom, you must be born again.” Nicodemus scratched his head. “How can a grown-up be born again?”

Just then a soft breeze blew. Whoosh! “Do you hear the wind?” asked Jesus. “You can’t see it, but you know it’s there. God’s Spirit is like that.”

Then Jesus said, “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Everyone who believes in him will live with God forever.”

Nicodemus thought about those words for a long time. They are for you too. God loves you so much that he gave you Jesus!

Talk about it

  • How do you know God loves you?
  • What big question would you like to ask Jesus?
  • How can we remember Jesus is with us, even when we cannot see him?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for loving the world and for giving us Jesus. Amen.
