John 2:1–11

Water into Wine

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus, his mother Mary and his friends went to a wedding party in Cana. There was music, dancing and lots of good food. Everyone was happy!

But then something went wrong. The wine ran out! The bride and groom would be so embarrassed. Mary came to Jesus. “They have no more wine,” she said.

Then Mary told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” She knew Jesus could help.

Six big stone jars stood nearby. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them right to the top. Glug, glug, glug!

“Now dip some out and take it to the head waiter,” said Jesus. The head waiter took a sip. “Mmm! This is the best wine of all!”

The water had turned into wine! This was the first miracle Jesus did. His friends saw his glory, and they believed in him.

Talk about it

  • Why do you think Jesus wanted to help at the party?
  • How do you think the servants felt when they saw the jars full of wine?
  • What is one kind thing we can do when someone needs help?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, thank you for caring about big things and little things. Amen.
