Ruth 1–4

Ruth Stays

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Naomi lived far from home with her two sons and their wives, Ruth and Orpah. Then sad times came. Naomi’s husband and both sons died.

“I will go back home to Bethlehem,” Naomi said. “Go back to your own mothers, girls.” Orpah cried, kissed Naomi, and went home.

But Ruth hugged Naomi tight. “I won’t leave you,” she said. “Where you go, I will go. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

In Bethlehem it was harvest time. Ruth worked hard in the fields, picking up leftover grain for Naomi and herself. Swish, swish went the barley.

The field belonged to a kind man named Boaz. “I’ve heard how you care for Naomi,” he said. He told his workers, “Leave extra grain for Ruth!”

Later, Boaz and Ruth got married. They had a baby boy, and Naomi was happy again! That baby became the grandpa of King David. God takes care of us.

Talk about it

  • How did Ruth show love to Naomi?
  • Who helped Ruth and Naomi when they needed food?
  • How can our family show kind love like Ruth this week?

Pray together

Dear God, help me be loyal and kind to my family and friends. Amen.
