Seven Splashes

The story

Naaman was a brave army captain. But he had a skin sickness called leprosy, and no doctor could make him better.

In Naaman’s house lived a young servant girl from Israel. She was far from home, but she was kind. “If only my master could visit God’s prophet in Israel!” she said. “He would heal him!”

So Naaman went, with horses and chariots and gifts of silver and gold. Clippity-clop! He rode right up to the door of the prophet Elisha.

Elisha didn’t even come outside. He sent a messenger: “Go wash in the Jordan River seven times.” Naaman was grumpy. “That muddy river? Humph!”

But his servants said, “Why not try?” So Naaman went down into the river. One, two, three... SPLASH! Four, five, six... SPLASH! Seven! SPLASH!

Naaman’s skin was smooth and new, like a little child’s! “Now I know there is no God in all the world like Israel’s God!” he said.

Talk about it

  • Naaman almost didn’t listen. Why is it good to do things God’s way?
  • Who helped Naaman choose to listen?
  • When is it hard for you to obey, even when it is good?

Pray together

Dear God, help me trust your way, even when I don’t understand. Amen.

Memory verse
