1 Kings 3

Solomon Asks for Wisdom

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

David’s son Solomon became the new king. He was young, and being king was a very big job. Solomon loved God and wanted to do it well.

One night, God came to Solomon in a dream. “Ask for anything you want,” God said, “and I will give it to you.” Anything at all!

Solomon could have asked for gold. He could have asked to be famous. He thought and thought. What would you ask for?

Solomon said, “God, I am young. Please give me wisdom, so I can know what is right and lead your people well.”

God was very pleased. “You did not ask for gold or a long life. You asked for wisdom! So I will give you wisdom, and riches and honor, too!”

Solomon became the wisest king who ever lived. We can ask God for wisdom, too. He loves to help us know what is right!

Talk about it

  • What is wisdom? When do you need it?
  • Why do you think Solomon asked for wisdom instead of treasure?
  • What is one choice where you could ask God to help you know what is right?

Pray together

Dear God, please give me wisdom to know what is right and to do it. Amen.

Memory verse
