1 Kings 5–8

Solomon Builds the Temple

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

King Solomon wanted to build a beautiful house for God, a temple. Workers cut big stones far away, so it would be quiet at the building place. No banging!

They brought tall cedar trees from the mountains. They covered the walls with gold. They carved flowers, palm trees and angels into the wood.

For seven years they worked and worked, stone by stone. At last the temple was finished. It shone in the sun like a treasure!

All the people came together. The priests carried the ark into the temple. Music played. Then God’s glory cloud filled the whole temple with light!

Solomon knelt and lifted his hands. “God, nothing in heaven or on earth is like you. Please hear us when we pray to you.”

God answered, “I have heard your prayer.” God is not too big to listen to us. Whenever we pray, he hears every word!

Talk about it

  • What would you like to tell God right now?
  • How do you think Solomon felt when the temple was finished?
  • Where is a quiet place you can talk to God?

Pray together

Dear God, thank you for hearing me every time I pray. Amen.
