The story
Jesus’ friends waited in Jerusalem, just as he said. They prayed together in an upstairs room, day after day. They wondered, “When will the Helper come?”
Then, on a special feast day called Pentecost, there came a sound like a mighty wind. WHOOOOSH! It filled the whole house from top to bottom!
Little flames of light appeared and rested over each friend’s head. God had sent the Holy Spirit, the Helper Jesus promised!
The friends hurried outside, full of joy. People from many lands were in the city. The friends spoke in all their different languages, and everyone understood!
Peter stood up bravely. “God sent Jesus,” he said. “Jesus died for us, and God raised him to life! Come and follow him!”
That day, about three thousand people believed in Jesus! God gives us his Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps me follow Jesus!
