Luke 15:1–7

The Lost Sheep

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus loved to tell stories. One day he said, “Once there was a shepherd who had one hundred sheep. He knew each one, and he loved them all.”

“One evening he counted them. Ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine… Oh no! One little sheep was missing!”

“So the shepherd left the ninety-nine safe together and went looking for the lost one. Over the hills and through the prickly bushes, he searched and searched.”

“Then he heard it: a tiny ‘baa.’ There was his little lost sheep! The shepherd lifted it onto his shoulders and carried it all the way home.”

“Come and celebrate with me!” he told his friends and neighbors. “I have found my little lost sheep! Hooray!”

Jesus said heaven has a happy party like that whenever one person comes back to God. Jesus is my Shepherd, and he always comes to find me!

Talk about it

  • How does the shepherd feel when he finds his sheep?
  • What do you think the little sheep felt when the shepherd picked it up?
  • When do you like to remember that Jesus comes to find you?

Pray together

Thank you, Jesus, for being my Good Shepherd. Amen.
