Genesis 3

The Sad Choice

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Adam and Eve lived in God’s beautiful garden. They could eat from every tree but one. “Don’t eat from that tree,” God said. “It will bring death and sadness.”

One day, a sneaky snake slid up to Eve. “Did God really say that?” it hissed. “That fruit is good. God just doesn’t want you to have it.”

Eve looked at the fruit. Crunch! She took a bite and gave some to Adam. Crunch! They chose their own way instead of God’s way.

Right away, everything felt wrong. Adam and Eve felt sad and afraid. When God came walking in the garden, they hid behind the trees.

“Where are you?” God called. Because of their choice, they had to leave the garden. But God still loved them. He made them warm clothes to wear.

And God made a promise: one day a Rescuer would come to crush the snake and make everything right again. God never stops loving us.

Talk about it

  • How did God show love to Adam and Eve, even after they disobeyed?
  • What do you think Adam and Eve felt when they hid?
  • When we make a sad choice, how can we remember God still loves us?

Pray together

Dear God, I am sorry when I choose my way. Thank you for loving me always. Amen.
