Genesis 11:1–9

The Tall Tower

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

After the big flood, Noah’s family grew and grew. Everyone spoke the same words. Then some people had an idea. “Let’s make bricks!” Mush, mush, bake!

“Let’s build a tower that reaches all the way to the sky,” they said. “Then everyone will know how great WE are!” Stack, stack, stack went the bricks.

Up and up the tower grew. The people were very proud. But they forgot something big. They forgot to think about God.

God saw the proud tower. So God mixed up their words! One man asked for a brick. His friend heard “Blibber-blab!” Nobody could understand anybody.

The building stopped. The people split into groups that spoke the same words. They moved away, east and west, north and south, all over the earth.

The tall tower stood empty. People can build big things, but God is bigger than any tower. We don’t need to be famous. We need God!

Talk about it

  • Why is it better to make God famous instead of ourselves?
  • What can we do when we start wanting everyone to look at us?
  • How can our family help people know God is good?

Pray together

Dear God, you are bigger than anything. Help me to show how great you are. Amen.
