John 4:1–42

The Woman at the Well

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

Jesus was walking through Samaria. It was hot, and he was tired, so he sat down by a well. A woman came by at noon to get water.

“Will you give me a drink?” asked Jesus. The woman was surprised. Most people from Jesus’ town would not even talk to someone from Samaria.

“If you knew who I am,” said Jesus, “you would ask me for living water. Whoever drinks the water I give will never be thirsty again.”

Jesus told the woman things about her life that only God could know. “I am the one God promised to send,” he said. Her heart filled with joy.

She was so excited that she left her water jar behind! She ran into town. “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did!”

Many people came out to meet Jesus. They believed in him too. Jesus loves everyone, no matter where they come from.

Talk about it

  • Why do you think the woman left her jar behind?
  • How did Jesus show kindness to the woman at the well?
  • Who could you tell about Jesus’ love?

Pray together

Dear Jesus, you love everyone. Help me be kind to every person I meet. Amen.
