Numbers 13–14

Twelve Spies

Open it as a pop-up book: a storyteller reads every page, with sounds, a sticker page, a prayer and a quiz at the end.

The story

God’s people were almost at the new land God had promised them. Moses sent twelve spies to look around. “Is the land good? Are the people strong?”

The spies saw fields and trees and rivers. They found a bunch of grapes so big that two men had to carry it on a pole! Wobble, wobble!

After forty days, the spies came back. “The land is wonderful,” they said. “It is full of good food. But the people there are SO big!”

Ten spies were scared. “There are giants! We look like little grasshoppers next to them!” The people got scared, too, and started to cry.

But Joshua and Caleb were brave. “Don’t be afraid!” they said. “The land is very good, and God is with us! God will help us!”

Sadly, the people did not listen. They had to wait a long time. But God remembered Joshua and Caleb. When things look big, we can trust God.

Talk about it

  • What is something big that feels scary? How can God help?
  • Why do you think Joshua and Caleb could be brave when others were afraid?
  • What helps you remember that God is with you?

Pray together

Dear God, when things look big and scary, help me trust you like Joshua and Caleb. Amen.
